There is a bug with lockdown when testing on localhost when setting passwords:
the admin user refers to the correct page however, all other users have a fix url in case of redirect users to a specific page upon login. so, in case of the localhost set up, it won't work.
another nice feature would be to have the respective user's name appear upon login on the respective pages.

Regarding your question -- If I understand you correctly I think the short answer is the redirect feature is really meant to be used on a live web site.
